11 Bizarre 2017 Trends That Must Stay Dead in 2018

2017 Collage

The year 2017 turned out to be a year where the weirdest and most unbelievable things became trendy. Everyone seemed crazy about things that I find disturbing and unnecessary. So, I took some time to compile a list of trends that should die, be allowed to rest in peace, and be disapproved of if they ever attempt to reincarnate.

I would like to state that some items on my list are not applicable to all nationalities; these are simply random, disturbing things within and outside my community that get my brain boiling.

1. Wavy Eyebrows

Wavy Eyebrows

I don’t know about you, but I am perfectly content with having my eyebrows "on fleek." I really don't know what kind of demon possessed the fashion industry, prompting them to introduce these snake-looking brows. The wavy or snaky brows have always been a hard “NO” for me, and I think this trend should die with 2017.

2. Ouija Boards

Ouija Board

It is difficult to understand why people feel like messing with the devil is cool; I just don't get it. This board, also known as a spirit or talking board, came to the limelight in late 2016. Throughout 2017, the Ouija board became a trend all over the internet. I still fail to understand why people want to communicate with spirits so casually. This trend should rest in peace.

3. Excessively Ripped Jeans

Ripped Jeans

I like a pair of decent ripped jeans, but if you overdo it by showing me your entire thighs and butt, I think there is a problem. Over-ripped jeans make me think your brain is ripped or you need medical attention. For goodness' sake, it is not a look to continue with. This trend should stop, die, and rest in peace with 2017.

4. Fake News

Fake News

I am sick and tired of fake news. People spreading wrong information just to get views need to stop. Let this die with the past year.

5. Fidget Spinners

Fidget Spinner

This was one of the most purchased toys of 2017, with some people spending $1,000 on high-end versions. They are addictive and, in some cases, can even be dangerous. Above all, I am tired of seeing them all over the malls—they should go!

6. Underboob Fashion

Underboob Fashion

What makes you think we are happy seeing your "underboobs"? Stepping out with that much exposure is just not normal, and this look should stay in 2017.

7. Clickbait

Clickbait

This is the most annoying and deceptive trend. People titling their content just to lure clicks. The other day, I saw a video titled "How to make money through E-commerce," and the video was just a lady talking about her husband destroying her financially. What is the relationship between the title and the content? This must stop.

8. Excessive Highlighting

Highlighting

I am tired of scrolling through Instagram with my sunglasses on. The makeup community is using so much highlighter that you literally need eye protection from the rays. This should stop and remain dead.

9. Meaningless Slang & Negativity

Meaningless slang should be killed and not allowed to see the light of day again. To all the "Slay Queens," "Slay Kings," and "Barbists"—give us peace in 2018! Additionally, cyberbullying was at its peak in 2017. Negative comments and internet toxicity are trends not worth taking into the future.

10. The "Gucci" Obsession

Gucci Obsession

To the "Gucci Gang"—I beg you, let it end. I am so tired of seeing everyone wearing Gucci; it makes the brand feel worthless. Between the over-saturation and the mass replication in the market, Gucci has made enough money off us. Let the trend die.

11. The Gluten-Free Fantasy

Gluten Free

I really don't understand why people without celiac disease are so proud of eating gluten-free foods. It's like someone who can walk perfectly deciding to use a wheelchair. Gluten is a natural protein that helps hold food together. The most annoying part? Producers are now making gluten-free pet food. Since when did dogs become sensitive to gluten?!
